Week of July 25th

Hope everyone had an enjoyable 24th of July. We did a little firework show here at the house from fireworks we bought in Wyoming, even though most of them are now legal in Utah.
Last week I really overdid it, running 4 miles Thur, 5 miles Fri and 7 mile Sat. I had Robert drop me off at Jensen Park in Syracuse which is 7 miles from our house. It only took me 1 1/2 hours, that about a 12 minute mile, not too bad, not the best either. Robert sent the boys out looking for me after the first hour, how fast did he think I was going to go? BUT I FINISHED! I could barely walk up and down stairs on Sunday though. Had to get the legs moving or would cramp up. Hope to work really hard this week, and finish with 20 miles.
Mon. July 25- 3 miles AM/ 2 miles PM
Tue. July 26- cross training
Wed. July 27- 4 miles
Thur. July 28- 3 miles AM/ 3 miles PM
Fri. July 29- 5 mile- long one today since we will be in Lava Hot Springs tomorrow
Sat. July 30- cross training- swimming at Lava

Week of July 18

To fill you in Aspen, we may have enough runners with one to spare. Wendy and Paul's friend as of right now may be running as well as Lon has shown some interest in running also. Brent's 15 passenger van needs to be registered and needs a new windshield, so hopefully he can take care of this before race day. When you called last night Aspen we were taking the new route that goes to Preston. WOW! Talk about "off road", we had a great time laughing about who gets to run out in no man's land or the gravel one way road that was not meant to be used to run on let alone a relay. It will be interesting. Care to make any other comments about it Becca? As of right now, Robert still has not made final assignments on who will run what for the race with all of the drastic changes in the route, he will need to re-assign some of the numbers, so keep running! Aspen, great to hear you are doing so good, a 5K already after a week!
What I am going to work on most this week is hydration. On Saturday, I attempted running 7 miles in the middle of the afternoon. I left the house @ 4:00 pm and had a camel pack strapped to my back to see how that would work. NOT GOOD! I could not get the chest strap tight enough so it would move around and rubbed me raw where it was on my back. Then, when I went to get a drink, for the first few sips the water was warm that was in the tube, but the worst part was that I could feel myself getting really warm and wanted to splash water over my head or in my face and you can't do that with the camel pack. Felt like I could run farther, but needed to cool down, so only made it 2 miles, and turned around, only running 4 of the 7 planned. The sun and heat really drained me quickly. So, this week, I am going to try and carry a water bottle with me everywhere I go and drink plenty of water during the day to keep hydrated. Heard on the news about a 10K run that had people dropping like flies because of the heat. Hope everyone (especially those that will be running in the middle of the day) we can get them water throughout their leg so that they don't overheat.
Anyway, here is the schedule I am following this week. Will try and do some of these runs at different times of the day and night.
Monday, July 18- cross training
Tues. July19- 4 miles
Wed. July 20- cross training
Thur. July21- 4 miles
Fri. July 22- cross training
Sat. July 23- 7-10 miles- will attempt it again
Sun. July 24- Off

Week of July 11

Only 5 weeks until relay! Not sure if you had heard, but one of our cross country runners dropped out, so we are down a runner again. Paul has a lead on someone who may be able to run. Also, went on the site last night they have DRASTICALLY changed the route. Robert is looking at it and may need to re-assign the routes. Check it out, almost all the routes have had mileage added on to their original mileage. My route (#3) had 4 miles more, and is drastically harder. It was the 10th easiest route and is now #5 hardest. YIKES! Give input here, may have to drop out if we can't find another runner, what do you think of doing the Vegas Ragnar is Oct or AZ Ragnar in Feb? Still plan on keeping the work out schedule as follows:
Mon. July 11- cross training day
Tue. July 12- 3 miles
Wed. July 13- 4 miles
Thur. July 14- cross training
Fri. July 15- cross training
Sat. July 16- 7 miles
Sun. July 17- Off

9 Weeks till EPIC

Hello Aspen and Becca
OK here is the deal. I need help and inspiration to make to the Epic race August 12 and 13th! Not sure how your training is going, but I am getting really worried that I won't be ready for the race. So, I set up this blog, just for us, if you want to invite others too we can. But this way we can encourage and see how everyone, especially us women , are doing. Aspen, I know it will be a few weeks before you are ready to get back into running, PLEASE take time off after just having a baby. BUT you can be mine and Becca's cheerleader and motivation to keep going.

On the Epic sight it has a schedule of workouts. We are 9 weeks to race weekend. I have altered their schedule to fit my training so that my day off is Sunday's not Mondays. I also switched so that the LONG runs will be on Saturday instead of Sunday. Anyway, here is the schedule I am following for this week. What I would like to do, is as soon as you have done your workout for the day, record it here so we know that you did it! You can write how you are doing, what frustrations you may have, etc. so we can encourage each other.
